Enmetazobactam

Enmetazobactam is primarily used in conjunction with cefepime for treating serious infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria resistant to other treatments. Its application is particularly relevant in settings where extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing organisms are prevalent, making it a critical component in empirical treatment regimens for complicated infections.

The biological activity of enmetazobactam has been demonstrated in various studies, showing its effectiveness against a wide array of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Enterobacteriaceae. In combination with cefepime, enmetazobactam exhibits significantly improved antimicrobial properties compared to traditional combinations such as piperacillin/tazobactam. Clinical trials have indicated that this combination can effectively treat complicated urinary tract infections and acute pyelonephritis caused by resistant strains.
