Tau-fluvalinate is primarily used as an insecticide in agriculture and horticulture. Its applications include:

• Crop Protection: Effective against pests on fruit trees (such as apple, pear, peach), ornamental plants, vegetables, and cereals.
• Apiculture: Used to control Varroa jacobsoni mites in beehives.
• Residential Use: Applied as perimeter treatments around homes and gardens.

Tau-fluvalinate exhibits significant insecticidal properties, particularly against pests such as aphids, spider mites, and various agricultural pests. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of sodium ion flow across neuronal membranes, which leads to prolonged depolarization of nerve cells. This results in symptoms such as hyperactivity followed by paralysis in insects. Importantly, tau-fluvalinate has been classified as "not likely to be carcinogenic to humans," indicating a relatively low risk for human health when used according to guidelines.
