Applications of 103-24-2

Bis(2-ethylhexyl) azelate is primarily used as a plasticizer for various polymers, including cellulosics, polystyrene, and vinyl plastics. Its main application is to improve low-temperature flexibility in these materials . Additionally, it has limited use as a lubricant in industrial settings . The compound's properties make it suitable for applications where low-temperature performance is critical.

Biological Activity of 103-24-2

Toxicological assessments indicate that bis(2-ethylhexyl) azelate is not genotoxic, showing no adverse effects in bacterial tests or chromosomal aberration tests conducted in vitro . Ecotoxicity studies have demonstrated that it poses minimal risk to aquatic life, with reliable acute toxicity results indicating no significant harmful effects at concentrations exceeding its water solubility . For instance, the 96-hour LC50 for freshwater fish (Oryzias latipes) was greater than 0.072 mg/L, and similar results were observed for daphnids and algae .
