Sulfamerazine

Its primary target is the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase in bacteria such as Escherichia coli, leading to decreased synthesis of dihydrofolic acid. This action ultimately disrupts nucleic acid synthesis and bacterial replication. Adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, and hematologic issues such as anemia or agranulocytosis.
