Biological Activity of 156-59-2

Cis-1,2-Dichloroethylene exhibits moderate oral toxicity and can irritate the skin and eyes upon contact. Studies indicate that it is metabolized by the hepatic mixed-function oxidase system, particularly involving the cytochrome P450 isoform CYP2E1. This metabolism leads to the formation of reactive epoxide intermediates that can covalently bind to proteins, potentially causing toxicity.

In terms of pharmacokinetics, cis-1,2-dichloroethylene has a higher rate of turnover in hepatic microsomes compared to its trans counterpart. Its elimination follows zero-order kinetics at high concentrations and first-order kinetics at lower concentrations.
