Eprodisate is primarily used in clinical settings for managing renal complications associated with AA amyloidosis. Its ability to delay renal decline makes it a significant therapeutic option for patients suffering from this condition. Beyond its primary indication, ongoing research may explore its potential applications in other forms of amyloidosis or inflammatory diseases due to its mechanism of action against protein aggregation.

Eprodisate has demonstrated significant biological activity in preclinical and clinical studies. It has been shown to slow down the decline in renal function in patients with AA amyloidosis. In a randomized controlled trial involving 183 patients, those treated with eprodisate exhibited a 42% reduction in the worsening of renal function compared to placebo. The drug's mechanism of action also suggests potential anti-inflammatory properties, as it may reduce levels of serum amyloid A and C-reactive protein, both markers of inflammation.
