Adaphostin exhibits significant biological activity against various cancer cell lines. It induces apoptosis through ROS-dependent pathways and has shown efficacy against chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells, including those with mutations conferring resistance to standard therapies like imatinib.

In preclinical studies, adaphostin has been linked to the upregulation of heme oxygenase-1, a protective enzyme that is activated under oxidative stress conditions. This suggests that while adaphostin induces toxicity through ROS generation, it also triggers cellular defense mechanisms.
