Research indicates that perfluorobutanesulfonic acid has a significantly shorter half-life in humans compared to other PFAS compounds like perfluorooctanesulfonic acid. Studies show that it has a half-life of approximately 25.8 days in humans, with faster elimination rates observed in animal models. Despite this shorter half-life, concerns remain regarding its potential health impacts, including thyroid hormonal disturbances and reproductive toxicity noted in rodent studies. These effects raise questions about its long-term safety and environmental persistence.
