Lead disrupts several biological processes by mimicking essential metals like calcium, interfering with neurotransmitter release and enzyme functions .

Despite its toxicity, some lead compounds have been investigated for potential therapeutic applications, particularly in drug discovery as lead compounds, which are biologically active substances that may serve as precursors for developing new drugs .
