Lithium fluoride is primarily known for its applications in radiation measurement rather than direct biological activity. It is used in thermoluminescent dosimeters due to its ability to trap charge carriers when exposed to ionizing radiation. This property allows it to measure radiation exposure effectively. The elemental composition of lithium fluoride is similar to that of human tissue, which minimizes the energy absorption discrepancies between the dosimeter and biological tissues during radiation exposure assessments.
