2-Nitropropane serves multiple industrial purposes:

• Solvent: It dissolves various resins such as epoxy, polyurethane, and phenolic compounds.
• Additive: Used in inks and paints to enhance properties.
• Feedstock: It acts as a precursor in synthesizing pharmaceuticals like phentermine and teclozan.
• Oxidant: Involved in the Hass–Bender oxidation process.

2-Nitropropane has been identified as a potential carcinogen. Studies indicate that it is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen based on animal studies, leading to its classification as an IARC Group 2B carcinogen. Inhalation exposure can cause respiratory tract irritation, headaches, dizziness, and gastrointestinal distress. Furthermore, it has been linked to genetic defects and liver damage.
