Dihydroproscar is primarily applied in:

• Management of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: It alleviates urinary symptoms associated with BPH by reducing dihydrotestosterone levels.
• Potential Cancer Prevention: There is ongoing research into its efficacy in lowering the risk of prostate cancer due to its hormonal modulation properties.

The biological activity of dihydroproscar centers on its role as a 5α-reductase inhibitor. By preventing the formation of dihydrotestosterone, it reduces androgenic stimulation of prostate cells, which can lead to decreased cell proliferation and increased apoptosis (programmed cell death). This mechanism is crucial for managing conditions like BPH and may also have implications for prostate cancer prevention.
